Welcome to The Joiners Arms, a century of tradition.

Our story

Nestled in the heart of Morpeth on the south bank of the River Wansbeck overlooking the weir, The Joiners Arms is a classic wet-led pub.  Established and first named The Joiners Arms in 1871 we have become an integral part of Morpeth town serving generations of locals and visitors alike.

Whilst there is parking immediately outside, the pub can be reached on foot from Morpeth’s bustling market town centre via the old Chantry footbridge, or perhaps after a stroll through the town’s relaxing and historic Carlisle Park.  There is a roomy dog-friendly public bar to the front complemented by a large, comfortable, traditional, family-friendly lounge to the rear complete with its view of the river and access to the delightful, planter-decorated beer terrace overlooking the weir.

Well kept traditional cask beers (including Bass) and on-trend craft ales are a speciality together with bottle-conditioned beers from Belgium and England, whilst feature blackboards detail the pub’s extensive World Whiskies selection.  These are complemented by a large selection of gins and other spirits as well as an international selection of red, white, sparkling and fortified wines.

Freshly brewed tea and coffee is always on offer, as are toasties and essential snacks of nuts and crisps (and complementary dog biscuits for well-behaved four-legged companions).

Whilst conversation is king in The Joiners, pub games include dominoes, draughts and darts (with the framed photograph of former patron and legend of the darts world, the late Syd Waddell, “The Voice of Darts”, being a treasure).

Journey into the future

The Joiners’ thoroughly professional team is truly proud of its warm hospitality and continues to welcome customers old and new.  Throughout our history, we have been more than just a place to eat and drink; we've been a place to forge friendships, celebrate life and triumphs, and find solace during moments of challenge.

Our patrons are an extension of our family, and we're immensely proud to have played a part in the lives of countless Morpeth residents and visitors.   As we journey into the future, The Joiners Arms remains steadfast in preserving the legacy of our past. We invite you to join us in experiencing the enduring traditions and the timeless charm of this traditional pub that has stood the test of time for over a century.

“Pubs these days are becoming more and more like restaurants! When you simply want a good quality beer in a relaxed environment it's getting harder and harder to find them. The Joiners is a haven in a pool of gastro pubs and in our opinion the best pub in Morpeth. The craft ales on offer are the freshest around and the staff are the best! The new beer terrace is a great addition and the views over the River are stunning. The Joiners haven't reinvented the wheel or done anything amazingly different but what they have done is simply perfect.”
